What is NAET?

NAET stands for Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Techniques. Dr. Devi Nambudripad developed NAET after a long period of illness. She was also a student of Chiropractic and Acupuncture at the time. They say that necessity is the mother of invention and that proved to be true in her case. NAET is a non-invasive, drug free, solution to eliminate allergies. An allergy is an unusual sensitivity to one or more substances that is harmless or even beneficial to the majority of people. One can have an allergic reaction to just about anything and the symptoms can be just as varied; from sneezing to joint pain, from fatigue, to itching to high blood pressure, to severe anaphylaxis. Symptoms are a sign of a disruption in the body's immune system.

What Causes Disruptions in the Body's Immune System?

  • 1. Hereditary Factors- Genetically inherited factors
  • 2. Toxins from a variety of sources, especially when exposed for long periods.
  • 3. Lowered Immune System- When the immune system is under stress this causes the body to become weak and over-react to outside substances. Common stressors are: physical injuries, accidents, surgery, serious illness and emotional stress.
  • 4. Emotional Factors- Sudden experiences of sadness, trauma, and even extreme joy can cause a strong response in the immune system.
  • 5. Malabsorption or deficiency disorders.

According to NAET when an incompatible electrical charge or an allergen comes near the body a disruption in one's electromagnetic energy field occurs. The large force of repulsion between the charges creates blocks in the meridians. This is an attempt by the brain and body to stop the allergen from entering the body further. Meridians are energy pathways throughout the body. There are 12 major meridians that correlate to the organs of the body and they are paired, two of each, i.e. two liver meridians, one on each side of the body. When these pathways become blocked they create interference in the Vital Energy of the body's systems. These meridians can be blocked on 3 levels: physical, chemical, and emotional. All of these interruptions in the body's electrical system, the vital force, can result in symptoms of ill health.

What To Expect from My NAET Treatment

The patient is tested for allergens through Applied Kinesiology. The patient holds a vial of a small amount of the allergen and then the doctor applies a small amount of pressure on a muscle to check for any weakness. This checks for any imbalance in the meridian pathways and organ systems. Disturbances in these pathways affect the body's nervous system, which controls all of the functions of the body, including the immune system. Next, the patient will hold this vial while a series of percussive pressure is applied down the spine. This procedure de-sensitizes the patient to this particular allergen. Then the patient must rest for approximately 15 minutes, (I generally will treat the patient with CranioSacral Therapy during this time, since it is very affective in relaxing the entire nervous system). Then for the next 25 hours the patient is to completely avoid contact with the allergen they were just treated for. This is because it takes 24 hours for the meridians to complete their cycles. The 12 meridians are active for 2 hours of the day, and the extra hour, 25 hours of avoidance, is to ensure the completion of the cycles, so there is no room for error. NAET intercepts at the immune response level. By stimulating the specific afferent and efferent nerves and nociceptors in dorsal root ganglia while the patient is in physical contact with the specific allergen, the NAET treatment is able to change the characteristics of the previous stimulus into a new one with a different signal. These altered stimulus will carry new information about the antigen (allergen) via synapse to the appropriate areas of the cerebral cortex, and then to the entire body. NAET involves the Central Nervous System, i.e. the brain and spinal cord, as it reprograms the brain by erasing the previous harmful memory regarding the allergen and imprinting a new, useful memory in its place.
